Across time zones and hemispheres, it’s the little things—like moon phases and work wins—that remind us we’re all on the same planet, sharing the same story.
Yesterday, I had a video call with a colleague in our Pune office, and I was reminded of how big our planet is. It was morning for them and almost time for me to go to bed. It’s wild how technology connects us so seamlessly across vast distances—while one of us is starting the day, the other is wrapping it up. Despite the time zone differences, language quirks, and date mix-ups (is it the 10th of April or the October 4th?), there are shared experiences that remind us, no matter where we are, we’re all Earthlings.
One of my favorite Earthling experiences that unites our diverse planetary crew is the lunar cycle. Twice a month, the new moon and full moon cast their light (or lack of it) across the sky. Whether you’re in Pune, Prague, or Philadelphia, we all share these same lunar phases.
Personally, I water my plants on the New Moon and Full Moon as a way to reconnect with nature. Call me a lunatic, but syncing my routine with the lunar cycle helps me stay balanced and my plants healthy. Without it, I’m prone to overwatering or forgetting for days. The lunar cycle acts like nature’s snooze button: if I miss one cycle, there’s always another in 14 days to bring me back on track. It’s a small ritual, but it connects me with the cosmos. And I’m not alone—many of us, no matter where we are, share this experience, a reminder that, on this tiny blue dot, we’re all in this together.
What unites us even more than the moon and our love for space? Work. Yes, work! It’s the common thread that binds our team of space fans from every corner of the globe. We might be separated by thousands of miles, but when we connect on a call, we’re united in our collective experiences, especially the triumphs and challenges of our jobs and our creative solutions to recurring challenges.
It doesn’t matter whether you're a developer in Mexico City or a designer in Melbourne—we all have stories of persevering through challenges, overcoming obstacles, and celebrating the victories big and small. These shared work experiences are what connect us, no matter our time zone or role.
So, while we may get tripped up on time zone math or the occasional date confusion, there’s a cosmic beauty in the shared experiences that make us feel more connected than ever. From the lunar cycle to the stories we share about triumph and perseverance at work, we’re all part of something much bigger than our individual roles or locations. And perhaps that’s the most wonderful thing of all: across vast distances and endless differences, we Earthlings always find ways to connect—whether through the stars above or the work we do together.
What about you? What are the shared experiences that make you feel connected to your global team? I'd love to hear your stories and how they bring you closer to the people you work with, no matter where in the world (or the galaxy!) they are.
